Riding "The Beast"
July 02, 2011
Trouble viewing the video? Brad told me before the run that the Beast was not at 100%. He warned me that the truck was pulling to the right and he was worried that the right rear wheel might lock up. "Did I want to video tape the ride or would I prefer to wait till next month?" After thinking it over I decided if he felt safe enough to drive it, I felt safe enough to ride as a passenger. Remember that whatever the camera shows is what the driver is seeing (except for the tachometer in the right of the screen) All the bouncing and losing sight of the track is what you are actually seeing from inside the cab. Later I was told that the truck started "humping" (rocking from front to back) and Brad had to back off the gas to keep it under control. It was a bumpy ride, but exhilarating. I now understand better why these drivers enjoy mud racing so much. Unfortunately, on it's first run at the Fast Track the right rear caliper did indeed lock up and that finished Brad's racing for the night. |
